Seaplane concerns on Tooms Lake - Rosemary Grant
There's trouble in paradise, with anglers up in arms over new approvals for sea plane landings on inland lakes. The conflict was sparked when the Northern Midlands Council provided temporary approval for Tasmanian Seaplanes to land on Tooms Lake four times a month. Tooms Lake is east of Oatlands and it feeds the upper reaches of the Macquarie River and flows on to the township of Ross.President of the Freshwater Anglers Council of Tasmania, Peter Richards, says there's a lot at stake for the community that relies on Tooms Lake. He says anglers, irrigators and the township of Ross are all affected, and the impacts should be fully examined.Margaret and Terry Mullholland operate Tasmanian Seaplanes, which now has approval for four landings a month at Tooms Lake. They anticipate national and international advertising will shortly bring high-paying customers to the state for their seaplane adventures.
